New IT strategy alongside Budget

The government is said to be ready to publish a new IT strategy to replace the Transformational Government Strategy.

According to ukauthority.com, a new strategy will be launched alongside the Pre-Budget Report, due on 9 December.

Called New World, New Challenges, New Opportunities, it will set out the direction of government IT until 2020.

It is believed the strategy will encompass initiatives like the Operational Efficiency Programme (OEP) with government moves to open source and cloud computing.

The new strategy is said to expect further savings through government IT of up to £500m per annum by 2020.

A response or confirmation from the Cabinet Office is pending.
