Teachers may take strike action

Schools in Scotland could be hit by strike action for the first time in 20 years.
Scotland's largest teaching union – the EIS – is to decide whether to ballot for a strike over spending cuts in schools.
The union, which is meeting in Dundee for its annual conference, will also consider industrial action over implementation of the new curriculum.
ADES, the non-political body which represents council education officials, claims schools are experiencing the most serious spending cuts in 30 years. And there are reports from teachers suggesting pupils in some schools are short of essential items such as pencils, jotters and text books.
