Council publishes spending online
Tuesday, July 27, 2010
Barnet Council has published details of payments it has made in excess of £500, as part of its transparency efforts.
Payment details of orders with suppliers during April and June 2010 have now been released and the council will continue to publish spending every quarter.
During April and June, a total of £94m has been paid out by the council.
Some payment details are not available such as payments to individuals including foster carers, children's and adult carers.
Council leader Lynne Hillan said, "Publishing our expenditure online is part of a current trend to make all public bodies increasingly accountable.
"I think it's only fair and reasonable that in the current climate residents are given the opportunity to scrutinise where their council tax is being spent and, ultimately, bring down costs.
