Directgov on Teletext and Freeview

Monday, February 02, 2009

The government's online service, Directgov, has now been made available on Freeview and Teletext.

On Freeview, Directgov will get channel 106 as a dedicated slot and on Teletext it will be available from page 750. Users of both services will get help and advice on motoring, finding a job, benefits and financial help, or how to renew your passport. For anyone wanting to search for jobs or get the latest travel information, Directgov on Teletext explains how you can do so on a mobile phone.

Chief executive of Directgov, Jayne Nickalls, said: "We have ambitious goals, and despite already achieving 11 million visits per month online, we know that there are many more people who could benefit from Directgov's services and information provided in this way.

"Ultimately we have the technology available to us and we will embrace whichever channels effectively make public services available on demand."

Teletext services are used extensively throughout the UK with 5.29 million weekly adult viewers on the Freeview platform and 6.9 million weekly viewers on the analogue platform.
